Ingredients for Spaghetti Pie

  • 1.5 pound beef ground
  • 2 eggs apiece – (well beaten)
  • Yellow Onion, 1 each
  • 2 tblsp. melted butter
  • Cottage cheese, 1 cup
  • Spaghetti Noodles, 7 oz
  • Prego Spaghetti Sauce, 26 oz. jar (or your favorite sauce)
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded

Setting up the Big Green Egg for Spaghetti Pie

This wonderful spaghetti pie is cooked for 30 minutes over indirect heat on the Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe. The foot of the plate setter / convert”egg”tor must face upward when installed.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for the spaghetti pie. Don’t forget to melt some mozzarella over top when the 30 minutes are up!

The Spaghetti Pie Sauce: A Step-by-Step Guide

Begin with the sauce for the spaghetti pie. Cut the yellow onion into dice. Brown the ground beef with the yellow onion in a skillet.

Drain the ground beef and set aside. Cook until your favorite spaghetti sauce has reached a simmer. Take the pan off the heat and put it aside for later.

Boil some water in a saucepan. Once the water has to a boil, add the spaghetti noodles and simmer until they are tender (roughly 7 minutes). Drain the water and go to the next step.

How to Make a Crust for a Spaghetti Pie

In a mixing basin, thoroughly combine the egg and yolk. Mix in the Parmesan cheese well.

Place the spaghetti noodles in a large mixing basin. Combine the butter and Parmesan cheese in a mixing bowl. Fill a 10′′ pie pan halfway with the Parmesan noodle mixture. Form a crust by pushing the noodles down and up the edges of the pan.

Microwave the crust for 2 minutes on high after it has reached the desired form. This will retain the form of your pie crust.

Now that the spaghetti pie dough and sauce are done, it’s time to put the pie together. Spread the cottage cheese in an uniform layer on top of the noodles.

To finish the spaghetti pie, place the spaghetti sauce on top of the cottage cheese.

Spaghetti Pie Cooking Instructions

The BGE should be up to temperature and maintaining a temperature of roughly 350 degrees with indirect heat at this time. Allow 30 minutes for the spaghetti pie to cook on the Big Green Egg.

After that, add the mozzarella cheese and cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted on top. Remove from the oven, serve, and enjoy!

  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground meat and onion in a pan. Drain the steak and return it to the heat before adding the Prego spaghetti sauce. Remove from heat as it starts to boil and put aside.
  2. Bring water to a boil, then add the spaghetti noodles and simmer for about 7 minutes, or until done. Place the noodles in a mixing dish after draining them.
  3. In a side bowl, combine butter & Parmesan cheese and mix together well.
  4. On top of the noodles, pour the buttter and Parmesan cheese combination and stir thoroughly.
  5. To make a crust, put the noodle mixture in a 10″ pie plate and press the noodles around and up the edges. To make the crust, place the ingredients in the microwave and cook on high for 2 minutes.
  6. On the noodle crust, spread the cottage cheese in a uniform layer. It’s time to fire up the Big Green Egg with the ground beef spaghetti sauce.
  7. Turn on the BGE and set the temperature to 350 degrees. The plater setter should be put with the feet pointing upward in this indirect cook.
  8. Once the oven has been set to 350 degrees, add the spaghetti pie. Cooking time is 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, add the mozzerella cheese and simmer for another 3-5 minutes, or until melted.
  9. Remove from the oven, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

If you want to save this for a later supper, skip the mozzerella cheese and freeze it instead.
